About Laura Jo
My purpose in life is to commit to self healing and the healing of others.
I was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas and moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas. After completing my Bachelor’s SW degree, I immediately enrolled in the graduate school program and received my Master’s Degree from The University of Texas at Arlington, School of Social Work.
I started my social work career at the macro level as an evaluator, planner, and coordinator. In order to move closer to my passion of directly impacting and improving the healing of individuals, I transitioned into direct practice working as a medical social worker in hospice, home health, and long-term care. After some years of contracting with state agencies and medical service providers, I began my private practice starting in 2006. In 2012, Copper Bridge Counseling was created to further my practice with home based services, focusing my interest and specialization helping those with hoarding disorder and providing mental health for older adults aging in place.
